Track Recap (2020-21 school year)
After having missed the 2019-2020 track season, due to COVID-19, there was track again in the 2021-2022 school year. This year the high school track team had 1 female athlete, Senior Natalie Ferch (shot put and discus), and 5 male athletes Jr., Greg Reedy (throws); So., Keith Gaskell (long jump), So., James Buckner (long jump, 100m, and 3000m; So Cordell Guckert (300 hurdles, long jump, 100m, 200m), and Fr., Marshall Haswell. During the five-week season the track team competed in six track meets. By season's end, Greg Reedy (shot put), and Keith Gaskell (long jump) qualified for the state track meet, at Eastern Oregon University. Natalie just missed out (2 feet 6 inches) in qualifying for the girls discus, and Cordell in the boys 300m hurdles (0.31 seconds). Though James was a little off in making it to the state competition, he did take off 2 minutes and 30 seconds of his time in the 3000m in just 5 weeks. While Marshall showed a dedication beyond his years when it came to situations in which he could have taken the easy way out but chose not to.
At the state meet Greg and Keith did extremely well considering the conditions. After being rained on throughout the early morning, while dealing with temperatures in the high 40s and low 50s each performed well. Keither soared 20ft and 1/4 inch and placed 3rd in the event. As for Greg, he dominated the competition by throwing 44ft. 4 inches. That throw was almost 4ft. longer than the second-place finisher.
Coach McCallum and I are looking forward to an exciting 2021-2022 season, with a normal schedule, and a full roster on the boy's and girl's teams. Go Wolves!!!
