July 09, 2018 – After four years of serving the Days Creek School District, Superintendent Mark Angle announced that he has accepted a position with the Southern Oregon Education Service District in Medford.
Angle announced his resignation at the Days Creek Charter School Board meeting Monday night. He will begin serving as Southern Oregon ESD’s education services coordinator August 7, 2022. His resignation will be effective July 31, 2022. The search for a new superintendent will begin immediately.
Angle joined the charter school August 2014 as student success coordinator and went on to serve three years as superintendent and principal, ushering in many instructional, facility and technology improvements.
In his new role at Southern Oregon ESD, Angle will be working with curriculum directors in 13 component school districts to coordinate curriculum, instruction and assessment for more than 50,000 students served throughout Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties. His efforts will focus on school improvement, as well as growing opportunities for career and technical education, STEAM education, career-related learning and dual high school/college credit programs.
“I treasure my time spent at Days Creek School District and feel as if I have become a part of a family,” Angle said. “As I look to the future in this new role with Southern Oregon ESD, I feel confident that the charter school is in a strong position to build on the successes we have achieved over the past few years.”
Angle embraced the challenge of leading a small, rural district and credits Days Creek Charter School’s hardworking teachers and staff with finding solutions to best serve students.
Throughout Angle’s tenure, the district saw facility improvements including interior and exterior upgrades. Technology upgrades have included improved infrastructure, new computers and other devices, and enhanced instructional software. In addition, new English/language arts, math and science textbooks were purchased, and the school charter’s natural resources theme has been integrated into students’ learning experiences.
Many new learning opportunities have been incorporated as well, such as a handwriting program and Japanese language and culture experiences for elementary students; robotics classes for middle school students; and dual credit writing opportunities for seniors through Southern Oregon University.
Angle said he is grateful for the relationships the district has formed with community groups such as Umpqua Community College, Douglas Education Service District, Ford Family Foundation and Mercy Foundation to expand resources available to students.
“As a small school district, we rely on many community partnerships to ensure our students are afforded the same experiences as students in larger districts,” Angle said. “The new superintendent will be well served by the strong relationships Days Creek has formed with these partners.”
