Dear DC Charter Families,
I am writing this letter on my last day on campus as the DC Charter Superintendent. As most of you know by now, I have accepted a job as Education Services Coordinator with the Southern Oregon ESD and will be moving to Medford in August.
The District Board of Directors and the Charter Board of Directors--at a joint-meeting on Wednesday, July 18, 2018--appointed Cathy Knapp to serve as Acting Superintendent while the district seeks an Interim Superintendent to serve during the 2018-19 school year. Ms. Knapp has been a wonderful colleague and is a very competent administrator. I am confident that she will serve the students well during this time of transition. At some point in early 2019, the boards will likely initiate a full search process for the superintendent who will begin serving with the 2019-20 school year. I encourage you to be an active part of that process, bringing your voice to the table to give input to the boards as to the qualifications and expectations you have for the next superintendent.
I realize that change can be stressful, but the district is in a solid place both financially and academically and I am confident that positive change and growth will continue. Though the person sitting at the superintendent’s desk will be different, most faces in the district will be the same, which will provide a great deal of stability and familiarity to students and families in the district.
It has been an honor to spend the last four years serving the students of the Days Creek School District. This was my first job in Oregon and my first opportunity to serve as a superintendent. I have learned so much about myself and about education in Oregon. I have met some of the hardest working employees here that I have ever encountered in the twenty years I have been a school administrator. I appreciate the community members, parents, and students who welcomed and supported me over the past four years. I will miss you all and wish you the best in the future. As an employee reminded me at my going away BBQ, once a wolf, always a wolf!
Wishing all of you much success during the 2018-19 school year and beyond!
Dr. Mark A. Angle, Superintendent
